The bus was driving down a narrow street, crowded and stuffy inside. All the seats were taken. At the next stop, a young woman stepped in, wearing a light summer dress.<\/p>\n\n\n

She was seven months pregnant \u2014 her round belly made her condition obvious. She held onto the handrail, breathing heavily, and it was clear she found it difficult to stand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Right in front of her sat a young man with headphones on. He was fully absorbed in his phone, listening to music, and didn\u2019t even notice the pregnant woman standing beside him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 Young man, could you please give me your seat? \u2014 the woman asked softly and politely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The boy didn\u2019t react, as he hadn\u2019t heard her through his headphones. The woman leaned forward a little, lightly touched his shoulder, and repeated louder:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 It\u2019s really hard for me to stand, may I sit in your seat?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The young man took off his headphones, looked at her with annoyance, and instead of standing up, smirked arrogantly:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 If you want, you can sit on my lap, \u2014 he said, pointing at his legs, and burst out laughing.<\/p>\n\n\n

His words sounded so provocative and shameless that the woman could barely hold back tears. Despair flashed in her eyes \u2014 it truly was hard for her to stand, but she no longer had the strength to argue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An awkward silence filled the bus. Some passengers turned away, pretending not to notice, others exchanged glances, but no one stepped in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The entire bus erupted in laughter. Some even started clapping. The young man turned crimson, his eyes wide, and jerked as if to stand up, but the old man settled himself even more comfortably.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 Well then, since the seat for the pregnant lady is taken, I\u2019ll make use of your offer, \u2014 he said loudly, and once again the bus roared with laughter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
