After their father’s death, when the will was read, the sons froze — all the property, the business, and even the family home were registered in their mother’s name.

They exchanged glances and understood each other without a single word.

— If she can’t live without her money, then let her live with it… underground, — whispered the eldest.

The next day, they put their mother in the car, telling her they were taking her for a drive. The woman, trusting and quiet, had no idea it would be her last trip.

They drove her to the railway tracks — to a place where trains always passed right on schedule.

The sons knew perfectly well that their mother, confined to a wheelchair, wouldn’t be able to escape, and the train driver wouldn’t have time to brake. And if the police investigated, it would just look like a tragic accident.

When only a few minutes remained before the train arrived, they stopped and, without saying a word, left her right on the tracks.

The woman felt the ground trembling beneath her. At first softly, then more and more violently. The rumble grew louder — the train was near.
She tried to move, prayed, but the wheels were stuck between the sleepers.

Tears streamed down her wrinkled cheeks. She closed her eyes and whispered:

— Lord, if You exist, don’t let me die like this…

But at the very last second, when the train was just a few steps away, something unexpected happened…  Continued in the first comment 

Suddenly — the screeching of brakes! From around the bend came a tractor. It was a farmer. He had heard strange cries and rushed toward the tracks. Without hesitation, he stopped the tractor on the crossing and ran to the woman.

A second before impact, he grabbed her wheelchair and pushed it aside with all his strength. The train thundered past, missing them by inches.

The farmer was breathing heavily, dust swirling around them, and the woman was trembling all over.

— You’re alive. That’s what matters, — he said, gasping.

She looked at him with tears in her eyes and whispered:

— Thank you… God sent you.

Later, at the hospital, when the police arrived, the woman told them everything. It was the farmer who pointed to a nearby security camera — it had captured the very moment the sons abandoned their mother on the tracks.

A few days later, the brothers were arrested. The court found them guilty of attempted murder. All the property they had so greedily desired was, by court order, permanently transferred to their mother.
